The Saga Continues

Okay, now on to my saga. Where was I?
Oh, Yes! One may wonder how Tom (pseudonym) (see blog post Laptops in our classrooms. Help of hindrance?) became so proficient with the new literacies. Follow me as I continue with the technological transformation of Fernley Elementary.
Preparation of all students
· Students from kindergarten are instructed in new literacies when they visit the computer lab. They are instructed in the use of word processing programs, web exploration and multimedia projects.
· The third grade classrooms are equipped with eight laptops and two desktops. It is here that students start to develop their proficiency as they are prepared for the fourth-grade one-to-one laptop classrooms. They are tutored in keyboarding techniques so that their typing speed increases, they create multimedia projects, podcasts, eBooks and they become more comfortable with e-mailing, blogging and instant messaging for sharing ideas. Instruction in the use of these new literacies occurs on a daily basis to prepare the students for their more extensive use in the fourth grade.
“The students leave Fernley better equipped the skills required in their future lives.” Barone & Wright ,2008-9, (p. 301).
So colleagues what do you think? Could this be our schools in the next ten years?
